During October 3-6, 2007 in Vilnius the V National Exhibition of the Republic of Belarus in the Lithuanian Republic “Belarus EXPO 2007” took place. More than 130 Belarusian enterprises and research organizations subordinated to the ministries of industry, architecture and construction, information, education, concerns "Belneftekhim”, “Bellesbumprom”, “Bellegprom”, “Belgospischeprom”, State Committee for Science and Technologies and National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have taken part in the exposition with inpidual or collective stands. Belarusian universal commodity stock exchange and enterprises of Lida region also took part in the Exhibition. The total area of Belarusian exposition is over 2800 sq. m, which is 1,5 times more than in 2005.

For participation in the Exhibition in Lithuania the governmental delegation of Belarus arrived led by the Prime Minister of Belarus S.Sidorsky. Delegation was composed of the Minister of Power A.Ozerets, Minister of Transport and Communications V.Sosnovsky, First Deputy Minister of Information L.Ananich, Deputy Minister of Economy A.Tur, Deputy Minister of Culture V.Gridiushko, Chairman of the SCS&T V.Matiushkov, Vice Chairman of Grodno Region Executive Committee N.Kovalev.

The opening ceremony of the Exhibition was headed by the Prime Minister of Belarus S.Sidorsky and the Chairman of the Seym of the Lithuanian Republic V.Muntyanas. From the Lithuanian side, the following officials took part in the ceremony: the Minister of Economy V.Navitskas, Minister of Transport and Communications A.Butkyavichus, Minister of Agriculture K.Prunskene, Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs L.Talat-Kyalpsha, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications A.Vajtkus, Chairman of the Committee on the international affairs of the Seym of Lithuania Y.Karosas, several delegates of the Seym, former President and Prime Minister of the Lithuanian Republic A.Brazauskas, President of Confederation of industrialists of Lithuania B.Lubis, heads and officials of diplomatic missions accredited in Lithuania, chiefs of branch associations of Lithuania, representatives of business, central and regional MASS-MEDIA.

   

The State Committee for Science and Technologies of the Republic of Belarus played a role of a collective organizer of a section of scientific and technical developments in the Exhibition. At the collective stand of the SCS&T (total area 90 sq. ì) more than 110 exhibits of 14 organizations of the Ministry of Education and 4 institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were presented.

The Ministry of Education was represented by the following universities and organizations: Belarusian State University, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State Technological University, Grodno State University named after Y.Kupala, Gomel State University named after F.Skoryna, Gomel State Technical University named after P.Sukhoy, Belarusian State University of Transport, Belarusian-Russian University, Mogilev State University of Foodstuffs, Polotsk State University, Vitebsk State Technological University, Brest State Technical University, Scientific Technological Park of BNTU “Metolit”.

On the collective stand of the Ministry of Education scientific and technical developments reflecting basic research directions of high SCHOOLS’ activities, and also technologies and innovative production focused on the potential consumers and partners in Lithuania were presented. The interest to universities’ display was expressed by representatives of Lithuanian universities, technological parks, private and state companies. They were mostly interested in the following exhibits: measuring devices and equipment of millimeter range waves, heat resisting and electro isolating ceramics, equipment and technology of gas and flame sputtering, technology of surface hardening, heaters of diesel fuel and technological equipment. Four protocols on intentions on cooperation were signed in the field of radio measuring devices and antenna systems, processing of materials and hardening of tools.

The basic areas for cooperation between Belarusian State University and Lithuanian partners have been discussed, such as education, agriculture, manufacture of products from penopolyuretane, technology of water purification, educational devices for laboratory practical works on physics, etc. Within these areas arrangements on cooperation have been achieved about realization of joint projects for creating installations for drinking and waste water purification, and also preparations of medical purposes.

Information about the S&T and innovation activities of high schools of Belarus (Catalogue of innovations by high SCHOOLS) was handed to the Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania.

The National academy of sciences of Belarus was represented at the Exhibition by the following organizations: United Institute of Solid State Physics and Semiconductors, Institute of Technology of Metals, Physics Technical Institute, Institute of Physics named after B.Stepanov.

The following exhibits of the United Institute of Solid State Physics and Semiconductors could be mentioned as the most popular among the visitors: small-sized ceramic antennas for systems of satellite navigation; technological complex for manufacture of liquid Helium; technology of cultivating monocrystals of emerald, sapphire, ruby, and also alexandrite; microprocessor devices for measuring a temperature, etc. An interest has been expressed by several Lithuanian construction companies to the instruments based on super firm metal.

Within the framework of the Exhibition the round-table “Urgent aspects of innovative activities in Belarus and Lithuania. Ways of development and cooperation between technoparks” has been held. The round-table was headed by the Chairman of the SCS&T V.Matiushkov from Belarusian party and the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Education of Lithuania L.Domarkene and Scientific Secretary, Scademician of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania V.Razumas – from Lithuanian one. Representatives of the SCS&T, ministries of education of both countries, institutes of the national academies of sciences, universities of Belarus (15 universities) and Lithuania, including Vilnius university, Technical university named after Gediminas, Kaunas technological university, Lithuanian institute of power, experts from technoparks of Vilnius, Kaunas, Shaulay, Klaypeda — totally, about 60 representatives of scientific community of both countries have taken part in the event.

The parties have discussed prospects of development of scientific and innovative spheres of the two countries, innovation infrastructure and innovative production in universities and academies of sciences of Belarus and Lithuania; have carried out presentations of definite innovative enterprises and their developments. Besides, Belarusian delegation has familiarized with the activity areas and organizational decisions in the technopark “Northern town”, Vilnius.

Ministry of Education of Belarus, Technopark BNTU “Metolit” and Belarusian State University were marked by diplomas of the organizers for high level organization of the collective stand. All the organizations participated in the scientific section were awarded with the Diplomas for active participation in the Exhibition. The diplomas were handed over by ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Lithuania V.Drazhin.

As a whole, it is necessary to note that participation in the Exhibition, negotiations carried out and  arrangements achieved will increase efficiency of the international S&T cooperation, progress of the S&T developments, innovative products and educational services of Belarusian scientific organizations and high schools in the external market.
