On 10-12 March 2010 in S.-Petersburg, Russia the XVI International Exhibition and Congress “High Technologies. Innovations. Investments” (HI-TECH’2010) was held within the framework of Petersburg Technical Fair.

The Exhibition & Congress HI-TECH’2010  is one of the main events in Russia for promoting high technologies, innovations and investment  projects into the economy, as well as for ensuring an effective interaction of scientific and innovation organizations, and also universities with the industry and potential investors. The key thematic areas of the Exhibition are as follows: high technologies (airspace technologies, biotechnologies, medicine, telecommunication systems, information technologies, radio electronics, ecology, educational programs); innovations for industry; investments (financing of developments, including venture financing); nanotechnologies, equipment and instruments for the production.

As it is foreseen in its Plan of international actions for 2010, the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus (SCS&T) jointly with Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support of Scientific and Technical Sphere (BelISA) has acted as a collective organizer of Belarusian science and technology section at HI-TECH’2010. At the collective stand of the SCS&T over 150 developments have been exposed. They were presented by 15 universities and 3 institutions of the National Academy of Sciences in the form of natural samples, exploitation documents for software, multimedia presentations, information materials, catalogues, promotion materials, etc.

As for developments of the universities, the largest interest has been caused by the ones in the area of new materials, technologies for plotting the wear-resistant coatings, IT-developments, equipment for production of goods from penopolyurethane, chemical technologies and materials, as well as biofuel for diesel engines.

The specific interest of the visitors has been caused by the following exhibits of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: technology and equipment for magnetic impulse punching.

Within the Exhibition life time negotiations have been carried out with the representatives of industrial enterprises and R&D organizations of Russia, Ukraine and Czech Republic about the possibilities of cooperation. As a result, a contract for delivery of fiber optic endoscopes, as well as 17 protocols on intentions on cooperation in the area of education and research has been signed.

Within the Exhibition & Congress a competition for the best innovation project and best S&T Development was carried out under the aegis of the Republican Research Scientific Consulting Center for Evaluations of Russian Federation. The aim of the competition was to define the most prospective innovation and investment project for the economy. This year, the competition included the following nominations:

  • The best innovation project (development) in nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, new materials and chemical products, advanced technologies in mechanical engineering and metallurgy, automation of production, information technologies and electronics, educational technologies, technologies of alive systems (biotechnologies and medicine), energy saving technologies, infrastructure of industrial enterprises;
  • New high-tech equipment and science-based technologies,
  • The best innovation platform,
  • Effectiveness of new developments introduction; modernization of production,
  • New technologies and innovative decisions for automobile industry,
  • The best innovation in logistics of production and storage,
  • Industrial ecology, rational use of natural resources,
  • Effective promotion of goods to the market,
  • The best youth innovation project.

The winners were defined by decision of the expert council and competition committee in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate rules for procedure. As a whole, in the competition for the best innovation project and the best S&T development 208 projects and developments from 99 enterprises and organizations of Belarus and Russia took part.

From Belarusian party, 48 developments have been presented to the call: 42 from the universities of which 15 from the Belarusian State University, and also 6 from the NASB.  Of them, 19 developments have received gold medals (15 —universities, including 5 by BSU, 4 — NASB), 15 — silver medals (9, 4 and 2 appropriately). Besides, one of the special prices and a Diploma of the 1st level have been awarded to the development called “Metallic structural construction” of Brest State Technical University.
