Thirty-three projects to establish new companies and production facilities having utmost importance for innovative development of Belarus were implemented in the country in 2012, BelTA learnt from the State Committee for Science and Technology.

Among them is commissioning of the hydroelectric power plant in Grodno. The facility generates 42.5 million kWh of electric power per year.

Another important project is production of new-generation tires for cars and light trucks at Belshina. The designed capacity is 2.5 million tires per year.

OAO SvetlogorskKhimvolokno installed highly efficient equipment at the polyether filament plant, which allowed enhancing the product competitiveness.

Mozyr Oil Refinery commissioned an isomerization unit, which will allow producing car fuel meeting European environmental and quality standards.

As for the woodworking industry, OAO Ivatsevichdrev set up a new import-substituting production of particleboards and laminboard with the capacity of 250,000 cubic meters per year.

OAO Belarusian Cement Plant and OAO Krasnoselskstroymaterialy commissioned resource-saving technological lines with the capacity of 1.8 million tonnes of cement each. They will allow reducing energy intensity of production by more than 25% compared with traditional technologies (from 200 kg of fuel oil equivalent per 1 tonne of clinker down to 145 kg).

Minsk Automobile Plant managed to reduce labor and energy intensity of production

The Swiss company Franck Muller has implemented a project to upgrade and retool OAO Minsk Watch Plant (Luch trademark), which will enable the Belarusian company to produce new collections of watches and to expand own production of component parts for watches and navigation devices.

The technological cluster Politekhnik of the Belarusian National Technical University designed instruments and implants to be used in traumatology and orthopedics. At present the technological cluster offers 36 types of medical products for trauma patients.

Belarusian scientists developed an aerospace monitoring system and a system to process data obtained from the Earth remote sensing. The software and hardware complex of the system allows detecting changes on the Earth surface using space images. The system is meant for emergency services for emergency and environmental purposes.

Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology Igor Voitov noted that Belarusian science has turned into an efficient instrument of innovative and technological development, a source of socioeconomic growth and well-being of people. “Successes and achievements of Belarusian scientists in various fields of fundamental and applied science have been recognized by the global community. The government will keep supporting and enhancing the status of scientists,” Igor Voitov said addressing the academic community on the Belarusian Science Day.
