Scientific counseling will help refresh the succession pool in science, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Alexei Trukhanov told BelTA prior to his meeting with participants of the Talents of the 21st Century technical creativity contest.

Young scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will tell contestants about the NASB and answer their questions. The meeting aims to get fledgling researchers interested in the work of the academy and to convince them that scientific career is still prestigious, Alexei Trukhanov noted.

Counseling of gifted students by mature scientists will help bring more young people into the science, he believes. “This work is already going on. Experienced scientists, for example, are asked to take part in Olympiads and research conferences as jury and experts. However, counseling should be further promoted to create succession between schools, universities and the NASB,” Alexei Trukhanov noted.

The meeting with young scientists of the NASB is one of numerous events of the program of the contest. Taking part in the contest this year are 300 young people from all the regions of Belarus and several regions of Russia. Fifteen Russian teams participate in the contest, including winners and runners-up of regional technical creativity contests. Winners will be announced on 21 May. Winners and runners-up will be awarded special diplomas, prizes and gifts.

The contest is organized by the Union State Permanent Committee, education ministries of Belarus and Russia. The contest is held by the National Technical Creativity Center of Belarus and the Federal Technical Creativity Center of Russia.

The contest is being held for the third time. Over its short history it has already won public recognition in Belarus and Russia, because it makes an important contribution to the formation of the single education space of the Union State, helps address social issues and foster scientific progress.
