The Belarusian optoelectronics design company OAO Peleng plans to take part in the production of about ten spacecraft as part of commercial contracts within the next few years. The information was released by Peleng Director General Vladimir Pokryshkin on 22 July, BelTA has learned.

Specifying details of the plans, the executive remarked: “It has been decided to create four more spacecraft, which will be similar to the Belarusian satellite, in order to increase the satellite constellation, which now comprises the Russian satellite Canopus-B and the Belarusian satellite BKA”.

The new devices will boast an optical resolution at least twice as good as that of BKA. The Belarusian side will produce the photo equipment while Russia will take care of the main platform.

OAO Peleng is a Belarusian cutting-edge optoelectronics design company. It is part of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus. The company emerged initially in 1974 as the central design bureau Peleng founded via the re-organization of the design department of S.I. Vavilov Minsk Mechanical Plant (part of BelOMO). The design bureau was reincorporated into the public joint-stock company OAO Peleng in 1994. OAO Peleng focuses on optoelectronics R&D for a wide range of applications. The company offers photo equipment for commercial remote sensing satellites as well as systems to compress, process, and store data.
