Belarus for bolstering innovation cooperation in CIS

September 29, 2011

Belarus calls for strengthening innovation cooperation in the CIS member states, Belarus Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the international conference “CIS: 20 Years On” on 28 September.

“Belarus is putting forward the idea of increasing an innovation component in the CIS,” the head of government stressed. In his words, this is the best anticrisis instrument. The CIS development concept through 2020 prioritizes sci-tech cooperation in the Commonwealth. In 2012 the CIS is expected to launch the program which is believed to consolidate the Commonwealth’s partnership in science and innovation.

At the same time Mikhail Myasnikovich pointed to the existing problems in the scientific sectors. On the backdrop of an improving situation with financing research at the national level, the majority of the CIS states still lack an efficient supranational scientific cooperation system. Joint projects and programs are unharmonious.

The elaboration of the CIS further development strategy remains high on the agenda. Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that in the globalization age the academic community of the Commonwealth would have to work hard on the CIS long-term development issues. “Setting up joint companies and strengthening business components of innovation cooperation is the best recipe for the CIS successful development,” the Belarusian Prime Minister said.
